Allow us to start the New Year by updating you about some of the most important points for EACTA in the forthcoming year:
A completely redesigned EACTA website www.eacta.org was launched in December. We hope that you like our new web site and also find it useful. An e-learning section will be added in the near future. If you have any suggestions for improvements to the site or notice thatany importantinformation ismissing, then please let us know.
On the website you will find the new tool for renewing your membership for 2014. EACTA is changing from a rolling renewal of membership to an annual one that starts on January 1st and ends on December 31st. To remain an EACTA member in good standing, please go to 'vEACTA' via https://esociety.netkey.at/eacta/veacta. Next define your own password by clicking on the button 'obtain or reset my login data' then follow the instructions that guide you through the registration and payment process. If you have not paid your membership fee for 2014 then you will be invited to choose your membership category and settle your payment. If you have already paid a part of your membership dues for the year 2014 then you will be invited to pay the balance of your outstanding amount for the rest of the year 2014.
One of the benefits of the EACTA membership to all members who are in good standing, is a free subscription to online version of the JCVA. Should you wish to receive the paper in addition to the onlineversions of the 2014 issues then you can elect to do so during your membership renewal. However, you will need to pay your membership fee and for paper version of the JCVA by February 17, 2014 at the latest as to receivethe April, June, August, October and December issues. For this this year only, we are unable to provide a paper copy of the February issue but you will receive it in future years.
To be eligible for all the membership benefits of EACTA that is online access to JCVA and reduced registration fees for EACTA Echo Leipzig and EACTA Annual Meeting Florence then you must pay your membership dues by March 31, 2014.

EACTA ECHO 2014
May 17-20, 2014 in the Heart Centre Leipzig, Leipzig, Germany. Co-chairs Joerg Ender and Chiro Muckerjee.
The meeting is aimed at three groups of delegates - those who aspire to gain a comprehensive knowledge in basic echocardiography, those who wish to take the certification exam in trans-oesphageal echocardiography and those who wish to learn about cutting-edge technological advancement and have clinical updates in echocardiography. There will be three courses that is basic, advanced and certification, during the four-day meeting. These courses are targeted at cardiac anaesthesiologists and surgeons, cardiologists, trainees, and clinical practitioners with a special interest in echocardiography.
In addition, don’t miss out on a wonderfulvisit to the historic city of Leipzig and a thrilling social evening on the Porsche race track!
This joint meeting will be held from September 17-19, 2014 in Florence, Italy. The local organising committee is chaired by Fabio Guarracino.
The aim of the meeting is to deliver a truly outstanding scientific and educational programme featuring leading figures in cardiothoracic and vascular anaesthesia and critical care from around the world. The scientific content will address the theme of meeting that is ‘Appropriate care in the face of reduced resources and increased morbidity’.
Although the focus will be on a stimulating professional meeting, EACTA/ICCVA 2014 is not only about education and science. Florence will provide a great setting for networking with experts from all parts of the world to exchange ideas. Also take the opportunity to enjoy unique Florence. Not only is the city an architectural delight that is recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site but it also has abundant cultural and gastronomic highlights!
EACTA as the leading medical association in Europe representing cardiothoracic and vascular anaesthesia and critical care (CTVA&CC), is committed to education. Therefore, one of the educationalobjectives that it has set itself, is to develop a course for trainee anaesthesiologists who are intending or even just considering, a career in CTVA&CC. This educational course will be delivered as lectures by recognized clinical experts and it will be compliant with the EACTA curriculum in CTVA&CC. The course will consist of a rolling programme of lectures delivered as series of meetings over two to three years. Lectures at the meetings will be recorded and later streamed on the EACTA web site, for those that may miss one the meetings.The first part of the course will be an inaugural one-day meeting heldin Florence on September 19, in conjunction with the EACTA/ICCVA 2014 Congress. Please identify trainees in your department who would benefit from such a course, bring this course to their attention and support them to attend it.
NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTION
We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the valuable input that you have given us during the recent congresses and meetings. In addition, we are grateful for the trust you have placed in us and for your active engagement to make EACTA the leading European association in CTVA&CC. Our symbol for 2014 is in the attached photo on January 1st showing an aeroplane's condensation stripe in the sky and a steep upward incline is what we are workingfor in EACTA.
