Weimar, Germany in May

With spring comes EACTA. The anaesthesiologist, scientist, pilot and scubadiver, EACTA 2nd Chairman, Professor Hans Sonntag, will organize the congress in the historic city of Weimar. It is situated in the middle of European geography, history and culture. It is a well chosen site for a European meeting. This is the first time since the forming of the association that we go back to a country where we have been before. Many will remember the very successfull second EACTA meeting in Gøttingen, 1987.

A travel club? Some have nicknamed EACTA a travel club. Is this a bad characteristic? Are we moving the annual meetings around only to see and to be seen? My answer will be a definite- yes! It is definitely a difference between reading about other hospitals and colleagues than to meet them and see how they live and work. Moving EACTA around is founded on the idea that easy access improves contact. Promotion of research and education in cardiothoracic and vascular anaesthesia is our dedication.

EACTA has grown since last time we were in Germany. But EACTA has an unused potential for attracting many new members. It is up to the organization, the Directory Board but also to the individual to be creative and suggestive how we shall create the future of EACTA. A lot of work is being done in the Directory Board to modernize the running of EACTA. In order We want to develop and improve the "product" for the members. It is important to hhave the members opinion and suggestions. Come to Weimar and give your say. It may be of importance to how the future forum for cardiothoracic and vascular anaesthesia will be. That may influence future patient care.
