On behalf of the European Association of Cardiothoracic Anaesthesiologists (EACTA) we are delighted to announce that the next EACTA ECHO course will be held in Montpellier, France, 7-10 September 2013.

It is our privilege to invite you to discover the beauty of Montpellier, a city at the crossroads of history and modernity, with an impressive architectural contrast of medieval and avant-garde design that makes Montpellier the classic French destination as recommended by the New York Times in 2012.

You will enjoy the never-ending sunshine during the beginning of September, the beauty of the sea and the vineyards with astonishing wines to taste and discover.

The meeting venue is the old Faculty of Medicine of Montpellier where we will have access to modern facilities but also the benefit of having wet sessions in the anatomic theatre, in close proximity to the anatomic museum that will be available for a private visit for EACTA ECHO 2013 attendees.

The scientific program has been conceived by the experienced EACTA ECHO committee, with the aim of making it appealing for beginners as well as to the more experienced Echocardiographers. On Saturday and Sunday, we will run a Basic Course and an Advanced Course in parallel.

The Basic Course assumes you have minimal or no previous experience with echocardiography. It will help you to start with basic echo views and their relation with anatomy, through keys lectures, hands-on session and human anatomic dissection. The second day will be dedicated to basic calculation and how to handle it easily.

The Advanced Course is aimed at giving experienced Echocardiographers updates on new developments in technology and their possible application in specific fields besides the operating room. Indeed, we will propose ultrasound in ICU, GUCH and cardiac assistance. The advanced courses will be enlivened by cases reports and interactive sessions. There will be contributions from outstanding speakers from Europe and overseas.

On Monday and Tuesday we will run the traditional Certification Course, specifically dedicated to prepare attendees for the official EACTA/EACVI TOE examination. The content will be adapted to the natural evolution of TEE practice like TEE for ASD closure device, but will also benefit from stable, well defined lectures given by renowned speakers.

I hope you will find the scientific programme very attractive.

We look forward to seeing you in Montpellier!
