Netiquette for EACTA-SCIDEBATE
- Some rules and regulations must be followed to keep the aims of the discussion group in perspective and avoid wasteful, reckless, irresponsible or uncontrollable discussion.
- False, libellous or defamatory comments are strictly forbidden. Anybody violating this rule will be removed, without warning or notice. Please note that EACTA, and the list moderators; do not accept any responsibility for any false, libellous or defamatory messages posted by members.
- Spam, simple forwarding or subject unlikely to be of interest to the membership is discouraged. Offenders may be removed at the discretion of the list moderator. In case of doubt, please address your email to owner-scidebate@eacta.info who will post it if deemed appropriate.
- Please post your messages in English, and use a spell checker before posting. It is good to think at least twice before submitting or answering. Don’t forget you may be read by quite a large number of people from various countries. Do not use only capital letters as this is difficult to read and equivalent to shouting in real life.
- All users will clearly label the subject of the posted message - this is very important when replying to a previous message (using the reply function of your email will usually be sufficient). Do NOT include the entire text of the message you are replying to as this makes it difficult to find out what your response is. You can however select part of a message to make your point.
- Keep it simple and try to keep your messages short and to the point. People will be discouraged if you just get on and on....
- Sign and identify yourself at the end of each of your posting. This may encourage out of list contacts and allows some discussion to be taken of the list if necessary.
- Some discussion may benefit all and others may be of interest only to the interested parties. Messages offering thanks, jibes, or congratulations need only be mailed to the interested parties. The same holds true for simple questions meant to be seen by one person only, and especially for any form of "me too" posting.
- If you have a disagreement with another member, please restrain of harsh comments. Try to remain constructive at all time and respect cultural differences.
- Don't post announcements regarding major news events to the list.
- Please note that large files may cause problems to list members using slower connections (and paying for their time online).
- If you don't immediately see your posting, don't assume it failed. WAIT before trying to re-post it. Some sites can delay transmission and if you are not patient enough, you could end up sending multiple copies to the list.
