What is new in EACTA 2012

The aim of the European Association of Cardiothoracic Anaesthesiologists (EACTA) is to be the European forum for international scientific discussions and exchange of ideas on all aspects of anaesthesia for cardiac, thoracic and vascular surgery including cardiopulmonary bypass, critical care, postoperative pain relief and trans-oesophageal echocardiography.

Traditionally most medical congresses are oriented towards one medical (sub-) discipline where most delegates are belonging to the same (sub-)speciality. This means that very important and interesting viewpoints arising within one speciality may go unnoticed by other specialists.

EACTA is well aware of this changing constellation of our work and recognised that there was the need for change. Therefore, the EACTA 2012 Organizing Committee which is composed of the Dutch Section of Cardiovascular Anaesthesiologists and the EACTA Scientific Committee proposes a fresh approach to an appealing program that will focus on a theme

Teamwork @ at the cutting edge

EACTA 2012 - Amsterdam offers a traditional comprehensive programme on scientific breakthrough. The topics that will be addressed from the viewpoint of a multidisciplinary team. The programme includes key note lectures, refresher courses, interactive discussions, breakfast sessions, workshops and oral and poster scientific presentations. This congress will address all aspects relevant to optimal teamwork including strategies to further improve it.

We promise an exciting program that while being definitely of interest to cardiac anaesthesiologists, but has be designed as well to arouse the interest of the members of collaborating specialities including cardiac surgeons, perfusionists, interventional cardiologist, intensive care physicians and more.

The teamwork theme will be in particularly elaborated on Friday the 25th of May by an outstanding panel of speakers from all fields of medicine and beyond to facilitate the participation of other subspecialties besides cardiac anaesthesia.

Traditionally EACTA 2012 will offer a unique forum to researchers who wish to present the results of their scientific work. More than ever this part of the programme guarantees the full glare of a floodlight on our researchers. Oral presentations will not only be grouped by topic but will be preceded by invited lectures. The best posters and best oral scientific presentations will be preselected by the EACTA scientific committee and will be asked to be presented at a prime time during the congress. Among these preselected oral and poster scientific presentations, a further three best oral and three best poster presentations will be selected for the EACTA prizes.

The industry committed to supporting our meeting will take part in the adjacent trade exhibition where there will be ample time for delegates to discover industry's latest products and cutting edge technology.

We will gather in the RAI International Exhibition and Congress Centre, which is one of Europe's leading congress centres, ideally suited to accommodate congresses of this size. Located in close proximity of Amsterdam's lovely city centre, the venue is easily accessible by public transport. After an intensive congress day take one of the trams downtown to enjoy the unique sights and culture of Amsterdam.
