Clinical Fellowship
The Clinical Fellowship Grant is intended to support junior colleagues who are from a European country and have a limited income, to spend a six-month fellowship in a different European country. Limited income is defined as a gross salary less that €2000 per month.
Timetable:
- October 31st, the year before the annual grant: deadline for application
- End of February: Directory board final decision
Clinical Fellowship are open to application every year.
Applications should be submitted to the by October 31st at the latest.
Conditions:
- Applicants must be members of EACTA who are aged of 40 years or younger and are either
intending specialist or within the first years of appointment as a cardiothoracic specialist.
- The fellowship must be spent in a European country but outside the country of origin of the applicant.
- The sum of €10,000 is given by EACTA for a fellowship of six-months.
- The sum granted by EACTA must at least, be matched by the hosting department. The dual financial support must cover the applicant’s cost of living for the full period of the fellowship.
- Applicantions must be made using the terms of the guidelines (see clinical fellowship application).
- Applicants must supply a supporting statement of no more than one sheet of A4 with size 12 font indicating what they hope to achieve in their fellowship, and how it would benefit them and their institution.
- Applications must be supported by letters from the heads of their home department and the hosting department.
- The head of the hosting department must confirm that the fellow will be supported financially by the hosting department or hospital by a sum that at least matches the EACTA fellowship grant. Supporting material must be submitted, which must include details of compliance with any language tests, registration/insurance and other regulations that may be required for the applicant to work in the host country.
- The award of a Certificate of Fellowship will be presented on completion of the fellowship, which will include presentation of an oral report to the general assembly of EACTA.
- Applications need to be sent to the EACTA Executive Office. Deadline for applications is October 31st.
Scoring system
Scoring system in evaluation of EACTA educational fellowship applications
The applications are evaluated in terms of following sub-criteria, yielding a maximum 5 points each. Thus, the maximum total score is 20.
- Educational/Scientific value (1-15), sum of the following:
- Originality (1-5)
- Scientific significance / Clinical significance (1-5)
- Appropriate study/educational design and methods to acquire the aimed result(1-5)
- Adequate material and human resources (1-5):
- Realistic financing plan (this is also a prerequisite)
- Laboratory and/or other methodological facilities
- Adequate time for the applicant allocated for clinical fellowship or research and/or needed auxiliary assisting/co-working personnel
This application must be accompanied by a complete fellowship plan that should be sent to the of EACTA. Without a complete plan the application cannot be processed further.
