- Abstract/Brief description
The meeting “Times they are a changing” will explore the rapidly changing face of cardiac, vascular, and thoracic anaesthesia. We will also explore perfusion advances as well as the hybrid theatre. The meeting has been able to attract three outstanding international speakers: Dr Nathaniel Weitzel from the University of Colorado, US, Dr Guillermo Martinez, from Papworth Hospital in the UK and Professor Stan Shernan from The Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston, US. This promises to be an exciting journey of discovery.

On behalf of the Cardiothoracic, Vascular and Perfusion Special Interest Group Executive, we take great pleasure in inviting you to the 2015 meeting to be held in Darwin from Sunday July 5 to Wednesday July 8. The venue is the Hilton Hotel Darwin, located in the heart of the city and overlooking Darwin Harbour and the Esplanade area.
We are also pleased to announce the workshop program has been revamped to ensure it is relevant to the new ANZCA maintenance of professional standards (MOPS) program. Every delegate is offered one emergency response scenario as part of the general registration fee. A second emergency response workshop may be available on a first-in-first served basis for a nominal extra fee.
Now for the jewel in the crown. For the first time at a CVP SIG meeting we will be offering an optional Echo Wet Lab. Dr Stan Shernan will lead this session. In pairs delegates will dissect a pig heart and correlate this dissection to echo images. It is modeled on the famous wet lab run by the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists (SCA) at their renowned echo course. This is a really exciting initiative and may never be repeated at an Australian meeting due to the expertise and logistics involved. I urge all anaesthetists with an interest in echo to make themselves available for this limited session.
The social program will consist of a welcome reception with the healthcare industry on Sunday evening, and a conference dinner at Pee Wee’s on the Point, which will both delight and engage delegates.
Darwin is an exciting city and July is the best time of year to visit. We look forward to welcoming you to a meeting with an outstanding scientific program led by leading local and international anaesthetists, perfusionists, and surgeons. These are exciting and challenging times for our sub-specialty. We are excited about the freshness of this program and look forward to your company in Darwin in July.
